ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a multidisciplinary contemporary artist based in Heber, Arizona, where I grew up and to which I returned after completing my degree in anthropology. My work explores the energetic and symbolic worlds that connect us all — a spiritual and artistic ecology rooted in my relationship to the Earth. Grounded in both personal spirituality and a study of human culture, my practice investigates the natural, psychological, and unseen currents that hold everything together. The mountains, forests, and open landscapes of my home continue to shape the way I see, feel, and create.
I currently work primarily in acrylic on canvas and linen, creating abstract and surreal paintings that feel deeply intuitive and channeled. My process begins without a fixed plan; instead, I allow the movement of color and contrast to guide the composition. There is a path that naturally reveals itself as I build layers of pigment, responding to each mark as it unfolds. Fine lines often emerge to accentuate and amplify the organic patterns created by the flow of paint, forming energetic fields that sometimes evolve to include solid symbolic motifs — animals, spirits, and archetypal forms that feel both ancient and immediate.
My techniques involve building and lifting layers of acrylic using my hands, towels, and other tools to move and remove paint. These methods create surfaces reminiscent of granite, dried riverbeds, shifting sand, evaporating water, microbiology, neural synapses, and connective tissue — patterns that mirror the micro and macro systems flowing throughout the universe. Natural processes shaped by water, wind, and living organisms are a constant source of inspiration. Through this material exploration, I seek to embody the sensation of energy moving through matter, echoing the interconnected structures of nature itself.
I view my work as channeled energy — as spells or acts of quiet magic flowing through my body and onto the canvas. While creating, I remain attuned to how colors and shapes interact and resonate within the mind and spirit. In addition to painting, I incorporate natural materials such as bone, antler, and wood in multimedia works, further bridging my spiritual practice with the physical landscape that inspires me. My paintings exist between abstraction and surrealism, occupying a space where emotion, energy, and symbol converge. Ultimately, they are invitations — offerings for those who feel connected to this shared spiritual ecology, and who recognize the same current moving through themselves.
